You don’t want to miss one of the best music festivals in Austin, Levitation is Austin’s 3-time winning “Best Festival” and it’s not hard to see why. This year they’re putting on some of the most exciting concert lineups in Austin and packing them in September 25-28. They’re shaking it up this year with its new home at the Palmer Event Center and there’s a lot to look forward to during this 3-day festival, kick-off shows and night events across the city. If you’re a little overwhelmed on who to catch, Howdy Gals has you covered with our five must-see acts.

Castle Rat

Castle Rat might say they’re from Brooklyn, NY, but they look like they just stepped out of The Labyrinth. The Fantasy Doom Metal band will be playing the first night of the festival, you won’t forget the band’s performance of their powerful sounds paired with swords, sorcery and all the antics one’s metal medieval heart desires. If you’re excited to see Mastodon, you’ll love Castle Rat.

Model/Actriz

Model/Actriz makes music for the sexy people that love a fast-paced, pulse-racing set. It’s for those who want to start shedding off clothes after all the dancing makes the sweating too much to handle. The Brooklyn band is an enthralling show with unpredictable turns in their sound that have you wanting to chase the next. If you have a good time at YHWH Nailgun and Font shows, find yourself at the Model/Actriz set Saturday night of Levitation.

Goat Girl

Calling all surreal sound lovers, Goat Girl is for yall. Their experimental sound is blended into a musical experience that takes on a fantasy effect. Austin festival-goers will be in for a treat catching this South London post-punk band on night two of the fest. Check out Goat Girl if you were a Warpaint fan or love Gustaf and Bodega.

Wednesday

Bittersweet sounds are why we love Wednesday. Their ease at crafting sounds with lyrical soundscapes packed with emotion and compositional layering is like the richest wine, it gives you a lot to linger and contemplate on. Emotions WILL be felt during their Saturday set. If Unknown Mortal Orchestra gets you in your feels, so will Wednesday.

Frankie & The Witch Fingers

We don’t know what’s more wild, Frankie and The Witch Fingers or their crowd during a live set. It’s fast, it’s fun, it’s wild. The LA psych-punk band has been getting a lot of buzz the past few years and it’s well earned. Their music is bold, it grips and whips you around. If you’re an Osees fan, you’ll LOVE Frankie & The Witch Fingers.

These are just a few of the many amazing acts during the festival, you can find more information and get your tickets over on their official website.
